This week’s video has a very important message to speakers: Keynote speaking is back and we need to educate, exemplify and explain that to our clients who have not yet started to do virtual events.
More and more companies are understanding that they cannot stop doing events until we can meet again. And when they do events, they need speakers.
From the video:
“So keynote is back, global is back. Virtual is back, 2020 speaking is back.
Why?
Because we still need to meet.
Companies, need to meet, they need to get together.
They need to inspire people around a common experience and have a common goal and a strategy for where they are gonna go, and where are they are going to take their companies.
And that doesn’t stop just because there is a crisis.
It increases because there is a crisis.

This changing time, is way too important, to have a bunch of our employees sitting at home unmotivated and uninspired, and alone,
they need to get together,
they need to get the industry going,
and that is just what has started to happen.”
(Sorry for the mic going crazy a couple of times, I guess I got too excited 🙂

In this episode of Professional Speaking we will talk about why you should not be a copyrat (RAT standing for Robbers And Thieves) – and why you should be a LION.
The message in this week’s video is bound to be a little bit controversial and I am not expecting everyone to agree with me – but I stand by my view that if you want to build true thought leadership you can not be a copyrat who just rips of other people’s content and re-upload it as your own.
I can understand the temptation to do so, especially on Linkedin that yet doesn’t have a system for flagging illegal sharing of content and where their algorithm is rewarding copyrat behaviour, but if you are focused on building genuine thought leadership that will give you credibility to be booked as a speaker you quickly realize that “shortcuts to many likes” is not the way. Creating and sharing your own thoughts and content is. Even if that road is slower and longer.
Watch the video to see why you should not be a copyrat – and why you instead should be a L.I.O.N.
Would love your thoughts on this in the comments field.

As I celebrate having created 300 weekly episodes (Hurray!) of Professional Speaking I am announcing the end to the weekly series. But do not worry, as you can see in the video it is not really the end, just the end to my commitment of doing weekly videos. Knowing myself I will continue to do episodes quite frequently, but I want to move my own focus to me creating more creativity content as creativity is my main focus.
And do not miss the announcement in the video (and link beloew) about the 5 hour online course now being live on YouTube!
It’s been a joy creating these weekly posts and I look forward to creating more on a “as I feel like it basis”. Follow me on LinkedIn to get professional speaking tips as well as creativity content.
